When to see a Urologist

If you or a loved one are experiencing trouble urinating or problems with sexual function, you may need to see a urologist. We evaluate symptoms such as:

Pain during urinating.
Frequent urination.
Blood in your urine.
Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
Pain in the testicles.
Pain during sex.
Erectile or ejaculation problems.
Recurring urinary tract infections.
Prostate cancer.
Bladder cancer.
Kidney cancer.
Kidney stones.

Experts recommend that men start seeing a urologist at age 40 to help you proactively keep an eye on your prostate health.

Treatments

We provide integrated and advanced treatment options, from medication management to in-office prostate and urologic cancer procedures, less invasive robotic-assisted surgical options and more. 

Comprehensive Treatment Options

Treatment procedures include:

Cystoscopy - a test that lets the healthcare provider view the urinary tract using a small camera.
Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) - minimally-invasive kidney stone removal procedure.
ESWL shock wave - this treatment uses a machine to send shock waves directly to the kidney stone, breaking it into smaller stones that will pass through the urinary tract. There are 2 types of shock wave machines. In one, you sit in a tub of water. In the other, you lie on a table.
Penile prosthesis - device to aid men with erectile dysfunction. Most common type of penile prosthesis include bendable rods implanted in the erection chamber.
Prostate biopsy - prostate gland tissue is taken out with a biopsy needle or it is taken out during surgery. The tissue is checked to see if there are cancer or other abnormal cells in the prostate gland.
Robotic Surgery
UroLIFT - an in-office procedure that places a UroLIFT implant into the enlarged prostate to help relieve BPH symptoms.
Vasectomy - in-office procedure that blocks the sperm leaving the vas deferens, keeping it from the semen. Vasectomies are commonly used as a form of birth control.
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) - surgery that uses a resectoscope (surgical instrument with visibility) to remove the inside part of the prostate.
MRI-Fusion prostate biopsies
Transperineal prostate biopsies
Artificial urinary sphincter

Many of our treatment procedures are available at our six urology locations. Robotic-assisted surgery is available at Liberty Township and the Mt. Auburn campus.

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

We offer robotic-assisted surgery for prostate and urologic cancer treatments and reconstruction, from cancer biopsies to laparoscopic prostatectomies (prostate removal).

We were the first in Greater Cincinnati to use the da Vinci Single Port (SP) robotic surgical system, marking a groundbreaking advancement in minimally invasive surgery for Urology.

The system is uniquely designed for a single-incision with unparalleled precision, for better patient outcomes, reduced hospital stays, and faster recovery times.

In addition to robotic-assisted surgery treatment options for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, robotic procedures available at our Liberty Township and Mt. Auburn campus include:

Radical prostatectomy - for prostate cancer
Radical cystectomy - for bladder cancer
Partial or total nephrectomy - for kidney cancer and renal masses
Adrenalectomy - for adrenal masses
Pyeloplasty - minimally-invasive surgery used to relieve a ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. (blockage coming out of the kidney)
Ureteral reimplantation - surgical correction surgery that changes the location of the tube that connects the bladder to the kidneys.

Prostate Cancer Collaborative

When you or a loved one are diagnosed with prostate cancer, you have access to a specialized team of experts to develop your care plan. We offer the Prostate Cancer Collaborative to all patients with localized or advanced prostate cancer as an opportunity to meet in one setting with a urologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist. This team was formed to stay on top of national guidelines and developments in prostate and urologic cancer screening, testing and diagnosis.

During your appointment, our integrated team of care specialists will review your diagnosis and treatment options. Together, you’ll evaluate options and create a care plan that best fits with your treatment goals.
