Clinical Trials at the Carl and Edyth Lindner Research Center

Over the years, our research center has participated in over 1200 clinical research trials, 100s of active trials, and has introduced many new techniques in cardiovascular medicine. The center also produces more than 50 publications a year and hosts educational forums for both physicians and consumers. 

Strong Reputation 

The Lindner Research Center has a reputation for quickly starting up clinical trials, with more than 50 percent of them being the first site initiated. Also, our research center has strong patient enrollment and reports high-quality, efficient data. 

Expertise & Growth 

Four first-in-person and five first-in-the-U.S. procedures have been performed at the center. It continues to grow by the number of trials and the complexity of protocols.

History of the Center

The following timeline highlights all that the Linder Research Center has accomplished. 

• 1985–Dean Kereiakes, MD partnered with Charles Abbottsmith, MD to begin formal research trials, administering early thrombolytic agents to treat acute myocardial infarction.  
• 1988–Dr. Kereiakes had the opportunity to participate in a large percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty/restenosis trial. To provide resources, The Christ Hospital Cardiovascular Research Center was opened, with Dr. Kereiakes named Medical Director and Dr. Abbottsmith named Associate Medical Director. The center also made new cardiovascular technology and therapies available, while enhancing the quality of cardiovascular care.  
• 1996–The center’s name was changed to The Carl & Edyth Lindner Center for Clinical Cardiovascular Research to honor the couple who contributed so much to the hospital. Trials grew in number and scope. 
• 1999–The center became independent and formed two separate organizations: The Lindner Clinical Trial Center, an S-corporation which executed more than 120 trials on an ongoing basis; and the Carl & Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education, a 501c3 which provided education to both consumers and physicians. 
• 2000–The center conducted multi-specialty medical research trials, in areas such as oncology, dementia, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, infectious disease, and anesthesia. 
• 2009–The center formally re-joined The Christ Hospital Health Network and continues as The Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education. By earning full accreditation from The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), the hospital became one of the few organizations worldwide to achieve that status.
