Screening for HCM
HCM affects 1 in 500 people. It occurs in both children and adults. While some people have few or no symptoms, others do develop signs. Recognizing the symptoms can lead to critical early detection and treatment. These signs can develop at any age:
- Chest pain, especially with physical activity
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Fainting
- Fatigue
- Heartbeats that are faster or stronger than usual or irregular
- Shortness of breath, especially with physical activity
