Overview
Our heart valve disease experts offer the latest treatments—including minimally invasive procedures—not found at other hospitals in our region. We have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating aortic, mitral, pulmonary, and tricuspid valve diseases. We offer personalized care to improve your quality of life.
Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular Care
Nearly 85 percent of our patients with a single aortic, mitral, or tricuspid valve problem are candidates for a minimally invasive procedure. As a designated Center of Excellence, we have performed hundreds of minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR) and transcatheter mitral valve repair surgeries.
We also offer minimally invasive transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) for severe mitral valve disease. Whether you need repair or replacement, you have more options and access to procedures that typically offer faster recoveries, fewer and smaller incisions, and better outcomes than open-heart surgery.
What Is Heart Valve Disease?
Heart valve disease alters the flow of blood through the heart. It primarily affects people over 60, resulting from changes in valve structure over time.
There are two main types of heart valve disease:
- Stenosis—the most common form, which occurs when a valve becomes stiff and won’t completely open, preventing blood from circulating
- Regurgitation—occurs when one of the heart valves doesn’t close entirely, allowing blood to leak backwards
