The Christ Hospital Physicians - Heart & Vascular
Dr. Chung is an invasive cardiologist and a nationally recognized heart failure specialist. Former Heart and Vascular Service Line Director and Chief of Cardiology at The Christ Hospital, he currently serves as Director of Outreach and Innovation.
He was born in South Korea and came to the United States at 11. After his family settled in New England, he was educated at Philips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, after which he attended Yale for his undergraduate degree. He graduated from medical school at the University of Massachusetts subsequently completing an internal medicine residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York and University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He then remained at University of Massachusetts for his fellowship in cardiovascular diseases, followed by additional training in transplantation at Columbia University. In 2000, he came to Cincinnati to establish the Heart Failure Program at Ohio Heard and Vascular Center, now The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute.
As an academic clinician, most of his own research revolves around strategies and methods to directly improve patient care. This spans new technologies, innovative ways of delivering health care, and improving protocols that are implemented in hospitals. With the explosion of technical power, drive to digitalization, focus on patient engagement, and imperative to improve value, his vast experience in detailed patient care, administrative leadership, and productive research places him in a position to make a difference.
In order to amplify impact beyond the individual patient encounter, Dr. Chung is working with clinical trials, the startup technology industry, and invention-design-engineering sectors to create solutions.
