Diagnosing Blood Cancer
As with most cancers, earlier diagnosis allows treatment to begin sooner and often leads to better outcomes. It’s important to see your doctor right away if you have unusual symptoms. Our team uses many tools to diagnose blood cancers, including:
Blood Tests
Blood tests are typically the first step in diagnosis. They can measure blood cells and reveal abnormalities that guide further testing.
Bone Marrow Biopsy
This test uses a needle to withdraw a sample from the solid part of your bone marrow. Your doctor may order a biopsy if blood tests are abnormal or unclear. We often combine biopsy with bone marrow aspiration, which collects a sample of the marrow's liquid portion.
Molecular Marker Check
This testing looks for specific genetic or molecular changes in cancer cells. Doctors use the markers to confirm a diagnosis and choose treatments that are most likely to be effective.
